Author Interview: Thetta James

Updated: May 14, 2022

Thetta James is one of the authors contributing to the upcoming Contemporary Romance anthology: Fiesta Nights. She writes Erotic Fiction with suspense and is the creator of The Erotic Book Review. She loves reading many different genres but is particularly drawn to Romance that isn’t shy about exploring sexuality.

She lives in Georgia with her husband of 30 years. They are the parents of five adult children and nine grandchildren.

When she is not writing or reviewing, she enjoys traveling the United States through her work as a Big Rig operator, interacting in her group on Facebook Thetta James’s Sweet Escape, and learning about cultures by meeting new people. She also enjoys watching football and binge-watching TV shows.

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Q. Hi and thank you for participating in this interview. I would love to start with questions that dive into who you are as an author. That said, when did you realize you wanted to be an author?

A. I started The Erotic Book Review 5 years ago — ironically, my husband named it that — and I have supported hundreds of authors. But I’ve also wanted to write stories for as long as I can remember. I just didn’t know how to develop a story around the scenes knocking on the surface of my brain. My husband pushed me to go for it in 2020 and here we are four books later.

Q.What genre do you normally write and what drew you to writing that genre?

A. My focus is Erotic Fiction with suspense, but I write stories that need to be told regardless of the trope. Of course, there’s always some kink involved. I was drawn to this genre by my journey as a woman and trauma survivor.

Q. Are there other artistic activities you enjoy doing besides writing?

A. I love Yoga. I used to teach and now I’m getting back into the practice. It’s so expressive. I also sing. It settles my mind and I get a lot of writing inspiration from music.

Q. What genres do you normally read?

A. I love reading and listening to all genres, but I’m very drawn to Erotica and Romance which explores the kinky side of things. I also love dark, suspense, and mystery. Reading allows you to expand your mind and ask, ‘What if?’ My love for stories has inspired me to write and share my words. Taking a reader on a journey into your world is magic. I hope readers enjoy my stories as much as I love creating them.

Q. Are you a paperback, hardcover, e-book, or audiotape type of reader?

A. I’m all of those! Most of my reading gets done by Audible. I’m a truck driver by day and I’m on the road for 6 weeks at a time, so Audible helps me keep up with my reading. Fun fact: All of my books were written on our truck.

Q. Who is your biggest influence?

A. Sawyer Bennett! She is my unicorn Author. I love her writing style. You can tell when an author has freedom of expression. Sawyer’s books gave me the inspiration to write what I want and not feel any guilt for my explicit sex scenes.

Q. What is your favorite book and why?

A. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. They made a movie about this novel and I cried just like I did when reading the book. It’s about hope, love, redemption, forgiveness, faith, and steadfastness. All things that we need in order to find balance in our lives.

Q. How many books have you written?

A. I have 3 published works and 2 unpublished.

Q. And now readers can expect another work as part of the Fiesta Nights anthology! What drew you to the Fiesta Nights project?

A. The celebration of Hispanic Heritage. I love Hispanic culture and loved the idea of a book completely focused on Hispanic characters.

Q. Can you provide a quick blurb/summary of your short story within the anthology?

A. My story is about Eva and Diego, lifelong friends who’ve been dancing together since they were children. Eva struggles with keeping a promise to her father and Diego wants her to abandon that promise and follow her passion.

Q. What do you think readers will love most about the anthology?

A. I think readers will love the different aspects of Hispanic culture that will be shared from 17 different Authors. It will be authentic and heartfelt. Readers will get a taste of the traditions and other aspects of Hispanic culture. I believe everyone enjoys learning about other cultures.

Q. What should readers expect from you next?

A. Readers can expect drama, angst, and lots of kink! I’m currently working on Meet Me in Barcelona from the Fiesta Nights Anthology as well as the third and final book in my Pure Sin Trilogy.

Pure Sin is the story of 3 best friends living their lives in Santa Monica, CA. They each have their own unique story centered around Pure Sin, an adult club with a dungeon. Crystal (Love Hurts), April (Love Displayed), and Chassity (Love Shared) are strong, independent women, but they each have problems with their love lives. There’s a trigger warning in each book, so readers know what to expect from each of their stories.

It’s been great to get to know you! Where can readers connect with you?

Readers can find all of my works listed on my website or Amazon. I am also on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and BookBub. Also, don’t forget to order your copy of Fiesta Nights, a Limited Edition Anthology. It is set for pre-order right now and once it’s published, you’ll have NINETY DAYS to snag a copy before it’s gone! It is set for release to Kindle on September 15, 2022 and paperback on September 20, 2022.
